Nestled in an urban, park-like setting, the University of Missouri - Kansas City is a university on the move. With a dynamic, standard-setting mission and vision as its driving force, UMKC connects education with a progressive city and its people, by providing: nationally recognized academic programs, research that focuses on real societal issues and Kansas City's civic agenda, outstanding performing arts, concerts, art exhibitions, and a vibrant campus life.

The completion of Oak Street Housing East, our new residential hall, is one component of a plan to transform UMKC into a "destination university," integrating student learning and living with community service and activity. The new residential hall is also an essential component of the University's goal to enroll 17,000 students by 2006.

In addition to the Volker campus, UMKC operates the Hospital Hill campus, located in midtown Kansas City, Mo. This campus is adjacent to Truman Medical Center, UMKC's primary public teaching hospital, and is home to the UMKC School of Medicine, School of Dentistry, the School of Nursing, and the Institute for Human Development. A Health Sciences building to be constructed on the Hospital Hill campus will be the future home of the Schools of Pharmacy and Nursing.

As Kansas City's university, UMKC is also committed to serving as an essential community partner and resource. The university views its current and future success as an enhancement of the quality of life in the metropolitan Kansas City region. The University's faculty and staff strive to help solve community problems and enrich the community with their research, expertise and talent.

As a community of learners making the world a better place, UMKC believes its future will lead to its sustained success as well as the success, of the extended community it serves.
